How to find an internship

It is time for your internship class, but you don’t know how to start. Most people who have gotten one will tell you, it is not by just applying online (although that is how you have to do it for the big companies like BCBS, CSX, and JEA, etc.) Here are a few more tips:

  • Tell everyone you know that you are looking for one. This includes classmates, friends, family, neighbors, and people from church.
  • Ask your teacher if you can have one minute in class to announce you are looking for an internship. Many of your classmates already work in field. They may have a project or know of one that you could do as your internship.
  • Pick a company you would like to work for and go visit their HR or IT departments. Introduce yourself and tell them you would like to get some experience.
  • Look on job boards such as indeed.com, monster.com, and dice.com for opportunities.
  • Join an IT organization and tell them you are looking for an internship. Two within the college you could join are STARS (David Singletary) or the STEM Club (Sebena Masline).
