Recommended methods of finding an internship/job

Did you know that networking (knowing someone) is still the most popular way to break into the IT field? Here are some ways to help you in this area:

  • Let everyone know you are looking for an internship/job (friends, neighbors, church members, classmates, teachers, family, etc.)
  • Ask your acquaintances if they would put in a good word for you or introduce you to a manager in the IT department.
  • Many of the larger organizations have an internship program. Search the web site or contact the HR department to find out if the company has this. CSX, Citizen’s Insurance, and Blue Cross Blue Shield are a few that I know. The CSX one is for students in the Bachelors program. It may be of longer duration and more hours than the internship class requires.
  • Think about your dream company. Check with their HR department to see if they do internships. Otherwise, see if you can locate a web site that might list employees. Reach out to the IT director to see if you might volunteer.
  • Use LinkedIn (or sign up for this). LinkedIn is a way to stay connected with colleagues in the workforce.
