Petro Services, Inc. is seeking Helpdesk “interns to work through entry-level Active Directory and entry-level Help Desk tasks.  AD Tasks include general cleanup, consolidation and edits to bring into compliance with a TBD schema.  Help Desk tasks would include logging ticket information, configuring PCs and peripherals to prep for deployment to Users and stores.  Depending on the candidate there may even be some low-level troubleshooting, basic WAP setup or small switch configuration.”

I am requesting a student intern for the CIT program in support of my 2017/2018 Perkins Grant initiative to incorporate the Raspberry Pi in FSCJ computer programming courses. The intern will work with me to design, implement, and document processes to configure and manage a large cluster of Raspberry Pi systems. These processes include:

  • hardware installation, configuration, and testing
  • operating system installation, configuration, and updates
  • network configuration
  • installation, customization, and updates of utilities and applications
  • system backup and restore
  • interaction with GitHub repositories
  • design and implementation of procedures, custom utilities, and applications in support of rollout for various courses
  • automation of the above processes to the maximum extent possible

Desired qualifications

  • familiarity with Unix variants, command line interaction, and scripting
  • Python programming skills
  • Java programming skills
  • familiarity with network hardware and configuration
  • a general comfort level for working with hardware
  • a high level of curiosity
  • an intense desire to learn new concepts

Secure Ideas Web Developer-Unpaid

The Secure Ideas Web Developer is primarily responsible for our public-facing web presence. The successful candidate will need to be able to work mostly independently, but will have access to experienced developers for advice and mentoring. The development technology stack is a modern Node.js build pipeline with React/JSX on Next.js. The deployment environment is an Amazon Web Services “serverless” stack, serving the main UI through S3 and CloudFront. AWS Lambda functions and API Gateway provide support for dynamic functionality. The candidate’s responsibilities will encompass all technical parts of the web development process, including:

  • Constructing dynamic site elements as React components written with JSX and Next.js

  • Customizing styling with SASS and Bulma

  • Building API endpoints as AWS Lambda Functions in Node.js

  • Maturing the build tool-chain for long-term maintenance

This is an entry-level position, with more emphasis on the candidate’s ability to learn and to solve problems, than on existing experience. However, it is essential that the candidate have a foundation in basic web markup and a good grasp on JavaScript.

Internship Qualifications
General Requirements
To apply for the Honors Internship Program, applicants must:
  • Have U.S. Citizenship.
  • Attend a college or university full time as an undergraduate (freshman, sophomore, junior or senior), graduate or post-doctorate student. Students are not eligible if graduating before the program start date; exceptions are permitted to students continuing their education in the semester immediately following.
  • Have and maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or better at the time of application, throughout the application process, and the duration of the internship program.
  • A first-semester freshman or student attending a school that does not provide a GPA will need to meet alternate criteria. Instead of a 3.0 GPA or higher, the applicant must have maintained at least a 3.0 high school GPA and have scored a 1,500 out of 2,400 on the SAT (1,000 out of 1,600 on new SATs) or scored a 21 or higher on the ACT.
  • Pass all of the FBI employment background investigation requirements and be able to receive a Top-Secret security clearance.
