IT Support Specialist at UNF

The IT Support Specialist is responsible for coordinating and supporting the use of computer and information technology within the departments, colleges, or divisions that include, but are not limited to: Office of the President, Administration & Finance, Academic Affairs, Institutional Advancement and Student affairs as directed by the IT Support Coordinator (356690). Primary area of responsibility will be Hick’s Hall, Alumni Hall, The Flats, and The Fountains. The user base consists of faculty, staff, students, and non-University members accessing supported technology in the above referenced areas. Provides direct and overall computer support for assigned areas and consults frequently with other Information Technology Services staff to resolve technical issues affecting customers. Advises users regarding IT related hardware and software configurations prior to purchase. Participates in the configuration, planning, installations, and administration of local area networked computers. Maintains a detailed inventory of all IT equipment within supported area, ensures security in the maintenance and storage of all equipment, and compliance with software licenses. Provides oversight for interfacing with appropriate University Systems. Contacts appropriate vendors for quotes on new equipment and enhancements to existing system. Serves as the end-user contact for connecting with other support personnel and software vendors. Attends Information Technology Services and other department meetings as needed and serves as the technical liaison between the Information Technology Services department and customers. Performs other elated duties as assigned by the IT Support Coordinator (356690) in Information Technology Services.

Unpaid Raspberry Pi Internship Spring Semester 2020

Student interns for the CIT program are needed in support of a Perkins Grant initiative to integrate Raspberry Pi systems in FSCJ computer programming courses. Interns will work as a team to design, implement, and document processes to configure and manage a cluster of Raspberry Pi systems and Ubuntu servers. Must be available to work onsite (FSCJ South Campus) for a minimum of 3 hours per week. Responsibilities include:

  • hardware installation, configuration, and testing
  • operating system installation, configuration, and updates
  • network configuration
  • installation, customization, and updates of utilities and applications
  • system backup and restore
  • interaction with GitHub repositories
  • design and implementation of procedures, custom utilities, and applications in support of rollout for various courses
  • automation of the above processes to the maximum extent possible

    Desired qualifications

  • familiarity with Unix variants, command line interaction, and scripting
  • Python programming skills
  • Java programming skills
  • familiarity with network hardware and configuration
  • a general comfort level working with hardware and electronics
